Breakfast Folk Presents: Family Ceilidhs
A few times a year we will host a Family Ceilidh – An afternoon of music and dance for all ages.
Our first ceilidh featured the fabulous caller Joey Oliver (of 422) armed with loads of family friendly dances and games, fiddle star Sophy Ball (of 422 and Andy May Trio) to organise our house band, and a beautiful grade 2 listed space to dance in. Not to mention the friendly Breakfast Folk crew to welcome everyone, play the music and even make cups of tea.
The first ceilidh was a great success and had over 100 people joining in dances and music and having fun together. The atmosphere was brilliant and the venue seemed perfect for the occasion.
We also had a chance to try out our ‘join the band’ for one dance – the band being made up of a dozen or so musicians including youngsters and adults alike. Music will be posted on here and on the Breakfast Folk website in advance of each Family Ceilidh (including easy parts and parts for transposing instruments like trumpet etc.) and we also bring copies on the day.
The next Family Ceilidh is on Sunday 27th November 2016, 2-4 p.m. at St James and St Basils Church Hall, Fenham NE4 9EJ. Caller Joey Oliver and fiddle ace Sophy Ball will be leading the tunes again.
Keep an eye on this website as we will post forthcoming Family ceilidh dates on our front page, facebook page and in the when/where calendar.
Entry is free but contributions do help us pay for the hall hire and things like guest callers or band leaders. The event like all breakfast folk events is not-for-profit.
Suggested Contributions for the last ceilidh were:
£12 per family / £5 per person / £3 per child.
